Dreams Of Flying Artist Statement

My inspiration for each of this images came from Von Hollben’s Dreams Of Flying photos. I thought of how cool it would be to fly, or defy gravity and I thought of ideas that would do just that. I took these photos from a bird’s eye view. Each is set on a specific color background and has props to create the scene. I didn’t edit these pictures in any way, besides cropping them and that was only to cut out unneeded area.

Dreams Of  Flying

This picture is taken by Jan von Holleben and it's a part the "Dreams Of Flying" portfolio. The picture is taken from a bird's eye view to make it look as if they are really riding motorcycles. When in reality they are both laying on the ground on their sides. Their bikes are also positioned to make it look as if the were driving on a rocky mountain trail. The trail it self looks as if it could be a grey blanket skilfully laid out to look like a rocky terrain. 

This photo is also a part of the "Dreams Of Flying" portfolio by Jan von Holleben. This photo was taken from above to make it look as if the boy was deep-sea diving when in reality he is laying on a blue tarp on his side. The rocks are placed at the bottom of the picture to look as if they the bottom of the ocean. Some of the plants are also placed on their sides to make it look like he was diving down. The fish are placed to look as if they are swimming by the diver. 

This is another one of Jan von Holleben's photos from the "Dreams of Flying" portfolio. It was taken from above to make it look as if the kid is flying when he is really just posed laying on his side on the ground. The trash cans are placed to look as if they are buildings and he is flying over them when they are just sitting their sides on the concrete. The boy's cape is positioned to look s if it is flying in the wind when its really staying perfectly still.

Jan von Holleben

Jan von Holleben was born in Cologne, Germany in 1977. He first picked up a camera when he was thirteen, following in the footsteps of his father, a cinematographer. Later on, he begun teaching children with disabilities. He then moved to London and earned a degree in the Theory and History of Photography at Surrey Institute of Art and Design. He worked as a picture editor, art director, and photographic director in London. Soon he made two separate photographic collectives, Young Photographers United and photo-debut. Today he continues to take photos throughout his community.

For my "Music Cover" assignment  I used Photoshop CS6 to edit and create this picture. The bottom layer is a photo of myself with the text on top. The text was originally white on a black background but I erased the black and changed the colour scheme of the words to match and create the picture. The words are made up of three different songs; Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, Wake Me Up by Avicii and Say by John Mayer.

My second music cover is of my friend Lia and I from last Christmas when we ate a bunch of blue candy canes. The songs I chose were "Lean On Me" by Bill Withers and "Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae. I chose those two songs because theydo a very good job of describing friendship.

My third music is another self portrait. I used the songs "Titanium" by David Guetta ft. Sia and "One Life" by Hedley.
